Hebron USA is a faith-based humanitarian nonprofit organization which works hand in hand with the indigenous peoples of Southern Mexico. Americans and Mexicans serve side-by-side in pursuit of the mission of serving Christ through serving one another. Our action areas include:
- Medical and Dental Services
- Mission Trip Organization and Support
- Education and Leadership Development
- Missionary Support
We operate on the philosophy of serving with as opposed to providing for. Hebron USA works closely with our sister organization in Mexico, Hebron de Desarrollo Tzeltal AC as well as several presbyteries of the Presbyterian Church of Mexico in the southern state of Chiapas. US and Mexican missionaries serve along side the people of Chiapas seeking spiritual and physical healing as well as humanitarian relief for a people who feel forgotten by their government, exploited by their country and persecuted by fellow villagers with differing religious beliefs.
Why Chiapas ?
Chiapas is one of the poorest states in Mexico. It suffers from the highest rate of malnutrition in the country affecting over 40% of the population. Over 1 million people in the state of Chiapas do not have access to basic health care.
The country of Mexico has over 300 indigenous language people groups with 30 of those groups represented in the state of Chiapas. Most indigenouspeople speak their native language but do not speak Spanish. Most are farmers living in outlying jungle villages, often miles from the nearest medical facilities. When they are able to access government sponsored health services, language differences and prejudice often prevent them from receiving appropriate and adequate care.
